Short for Infrared Data Association, a group of device manufacturers that developed a standard for transmitting data via infrared light waves. Increasingly, computers and other devices come with IrDA ports. This enables you to transfer data from one device to another without any cables. For example, if both your laptop computer and printer have IrDA ports, you can simply put your computer in front of the printer and output a document, without needing to connect the two with a cable.

Bluetooth is an open wireless protocol for exchanging data over short distances from fixed and mobile devices, creating personal area networks. It was originally conceived as a wireless alternative to RS232 data cables. It can connect several devices, overcoming problems of synchronization. Well, for me I think the advantage of this kind of connectivity is that it can transfer files from any device which has the same IrDA connectivity. But unlike the Bluetooth connectivity device, IrDA transfers files slower than the Bluetooth and you need to point the IrDA sensors of each device so that you can connect and transfer data and files on it. Aside from that, IrDA cannot search and connect to devices within the area limit of connectivity wirelessly.

Bluetooth networking transmits data via low-power radio waves. It communicates on a frequency. This frequency band has been set aside by international agreement for the use of industrial, scientific and medical devices (ISM). While the infrared transmits binary ones and zeros via IR(infrared) light is not as complicated as it may appear at first glance. Just as radio stations transmit information using radio waves, infrared devices transmit data using the infrared frequencies of the electromagnetic spectrum. Also, just as you need a compatible device to listen to a radio broadcast, you must have a device capable of understanding and translating incoming infrared signals.
